Klustre 2001 at the Chez Eelco Gallery

Os and Xs brooches from the Klustre Exhibition (2001)From the 9th - 30th September 2001, the Chez Eelco Gallery in Nelson played host to Klustre, Nelson's contemporary jewellery collective. Building on the success of last year's show, the cream of Nelson's jewellers have once again "wowed" visitors to the exhibition.

In an article entitled "Jewellers display an eclectic mix", Peter Gibbs of Nelson's "The Evening Mail" (Wednesday, Sept 12, 2001) wrote :

"There are far too few opportunities to see the best of Nelson contemporary jewellery in one place. Don't miss this one. There is no predominant jewellery style in Nelson. There's a strong European Influence, but otherwise it's an eclectic mix. The Pacific mood, so stong in Auckland, has not been a feature here. Much of that Pacific feel is evoked by the use of shell. In the Klustre exhibition, only Peter Elsbury has used that material extensively. His nine Noughts and Crosses brooches [shown above] use both the shiny irridescence and the matted areas of Paua in a lively, controlled series."

If you missed the exhibition, you missed a treat, so contact me for details of next year's dates, or linger a while in the online gallery (it's always open to visitors!).
